What happened to the genealogics.org website?

I just tried to access this website, which I, and no doubt, many of you, have used many times before.  (This is the website founded by the late Leo Van de Pas).

The screen came up blank, and  just asked for a user name and password.

Does anyone know what has happened to this invaluable website?

If it no longer exists, it will be a terrible loss for all of us who conduct research.

Thanks.

I used it yesterday without a problem, except it was rather slow. But today it's asking me to login. Hopefully it's a temporary glitch and things will right themselves. It's a good resource.

Thanks, Richard, for your quick response.  I thought it was just  me.

Hopefully, you're right and it's just a temporary glitch.  It really is very useful.

It's been 7 hours since my original post, and nothing has changed.

Hopefully, this is just a temporary issue that gets resolved by early next week (at the latest), but if someone has more information, or notices that the website is back up and running, please post here.

Having already lost hope of an updated DPB site, it is scary to think we might have lost this valuable resource.

Thanks.

I think that Ian Fettes, who administered Genealogics after Leo Van de Pas' passing, has retired, and it's now being maintained by a different group of administrators. Not sure, but maybe they now require an account with a user-name and password. I've used it for many years and it's a useful website. JUst now I tried it, and I also got the screen asking for a user-name and password, so I guess that I'll now try to create an account.

Unfortunately, I cannot create an account on Genealogics, as I cannot log in.

It's more than strange that, as Richard said, the site was operating fine (albeit a little slow) as late as yesterday, and now, all of a sudden, they are asking for a username and password, without even the opportunity to create one.

Does anyone have any idea how to reach out to the site administrators, and find out what's going on?

Losing this site would be terrible for all of us doing research.

Thanks.

Good news-- I just tested the site, and it seems to be working again,  without a problem.

Keeping out fingers crossed, that this continues.

Thanks for your help, Richard and Windemere.

Robert, I just tried it, 3 hours after your post.

Here we go again...

Hopefully, this will be resolved as quickly as the first time.

With this site still requiring a password, and with access to the information perhaps lost permanently, does anyone know of any similar site, other than thepeerage.com?  (I'm referring to specifically a site dedicated to royalty/nobility, rather than just a "general" site like ancestry, geni or familysearch.)

Hopefully, the genealogics site comes back, but at this point, we can't count on it.

Thanks.

It's been a couple of days, and no change in the website, still requiring a password.

For whatever reason, looks like we've lost this resource.

From the domain name registry, I can see that the domain name has just been transferred from one registrar to another. That could suggest the site owner has moved to a new host, and the site requires some fixes to make it work again. The expiry date for the domain is July 2027, so it doesn't look like it recently expired and someone else bought it. So fingers crossed that it will come back online soon.

I am the current administrator for the Genealogics website.
The site is undergoing maintenance because of bot attacks
and similar things. I was able to access the database yesterday,
but the collection is unavailable today. More later.

Thank you, Leslie, for this information, and for keeping us up to date.

The Genealogics website has proven to be a very important resource for my research, and I'm sure the research of many others within our group.

Hopefully, the issues will be resolved shortly, and the site will once again be available for use.

Thanks again.

The Genealogics website is still being worked on, and should hopefully
be back online at some point.  If you would like to have limited access to
the site, you can Email me at:

It took some time, but the site seems to be running well.
If we are lucky, there will be no more technical problems, for a while.
