From the Telegraph and Times of 3 August 2017: Mr G.P.J. White and Miss A.E.E. Churchward - The engagement is announced between Philip, only son of Sir George White Bt., of Bristol, and Mrs Christopher Overton, of Gloucestershire, and Alicia, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Churchward, of Aveyron, France.

(George) Philip James (b 1987) s & ha of Sir George Stanley James WHITE 4th Bt (b 1948), scion of the Bts of that name cr 1904, and his 2nd w Elizabeth Jane (b 1950) d of Sir (William) Reginald VERDON-SMITH (1912-92) and Jane Margaret HOBBS (1914-2012).

I doubt anyone knows off the top of their head, but if so: are these Churchwards anything to do with the old family of that name of Stoke Gabriel, Devon? It just struck me that it probably isn't that commonly-encountered a name.


EDIT: Robert Churchward would appear, given the birth of children with the right names to a Churchward-Spencer marriage (and the middle name of the son in the link above), to be Peter Robert Shordiche Churchward  (b. 1950), who m. 1976, Ida Catherine Morwenna, dau. of Group Capt. Desmond Gerard Heath Spencer (seemingly not of the comital family; courtesy of thepeerage.com). Searching back, this is a branch of the Stoke Gabriel family. Mystery solved without much effort, which is nice!

n.b. at the link above- the details apparently furnished in an e-mail by her father- Alicia's middle names are 'Emma Elizabeth'.

Her great-grandmother was named Ooryala-Mary Donisthorpe!
