From the Telegraph of 21 July 2020: Charles Lawrence, aged 83, died peacefully on 18th July 2020. Much loved husband of Liz, father of Lucinda and Sophie and loving grandfather to six. Private funeral, with a celebration of his life to be held at a later date.

He was s of John Charles WADE MC (1912-82) and Suzanne (1913-2011) d of Harold Lawrence SLOCOCK (1880-1968) and Lilly Louis (1888-1962) gd of Sir Saul SAMUEL 1st Bt (1820-1900). He m 1966 (reg Q2 Suffolk) Elizabeth I. d of Lt-Col T W F PATERSON of Hill House, Stradbroke, Suffolk, and had two daus (Lucinda Fernie b 1967 reg Q3 Warwicks & Sophie Elizabeth b c1970 reg Q1 Warwicks) as above.

Libidinous amateur sportsman and professional gambler who invented the handicap system that transformed real tennis

...Charles Lawrence Wade, scion of a wealthy industrial family, was born in 1937 into great privilege. The eldest of three children of John and Suzanne Wade, he was educated at Harrow and expected to lead the family’s steel stockholders Charles Wade and Co, founded in Birmingham in 1871. He was also expected to live up to his illustrious forebears, who included a lord lieutenant and a chancellor of the exchequer. Both his grandfather and father won the MC....In 1966 Wade had married the dancer Elizabeth Paterson, daughter of an Irish colonel. The couple had two daughters, Sophie, later a recruitment consultant, and Lucinda, an estate agent....
Charles Wade, amateur sportsman, was born on July 16, 1937. He died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease on July 18, 2020, aged 83
