From the Times of 18 March 2025: HUGHES-YOUNG Richard Francis Lord St Helens (Rory) died on 1st March 2025 at his home, aged 79. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 11.30am on Thursday 22nd May at Chelsea Old Church, Old Church Street, London…

He was s of Lt-Col 1st Baron ST HELENS 1912-80 and Elizabeth Agnes 1911-56 d of Richard BLAKISTON-HOUSTON 1864-1933 sometime head of that Irish gentry family and Lilian Agnes 1866-1952 d of George Jardine KIDSTON 1835-1909 sometime head of that Scots gentry family f/o Redenham Park and Elizabeth Agnes LOGAN 1840-1881. He m 1983 as her her 2nd h Emma Rosemary 1952-2018 d of Thomas Keith LYLE CBE 1903-87 (Who’s Who) and Jane Bouverie MAXWELL 1914-2009 (gt gd of Thomasine Ionia HANKEY scion of the Barnard-Hankey gentry family f/o Fetcham and, through her father, scion of the FOLKESTONE Viscounts, etc – see link below), and had a son and a dau. His son succeeds him:

HENRY THOMAS Hughes-Young b 7 March 1986 3rd Baron ST HELENS has yet to establish his claim. He is unm according to DPB online and there are no other heirs to this title.

Hon Lara Elizabeth HUGHES-YOUNG b 1987: m 2017 Thomas Hampden b 1986 s of Owen Hampden INSKIP b 1953 (gt gs of James INSKIP b 19 Jan 1839 & d 25 Oct 1909 who was f of 1st Viscount CALDECOTE 1876-1947) and Hon Clare Elizabeth Anne BUXTON b 1954 d of 2nd Baron NOEL-BUXTON 1917-80 and his 2nd w Margaret Elizabeth 1921-78 d of Stephanus Abraham CLOETE of Transvaal, S Africa, and has issue.

He took his seat on 4th May 1982 and sat as a conservative.

So according to my list there are 242 peers left who lost their seat in 1999.
