I was alerted to this death through checks on the Register of Hereditary Peers for By-election to the House of Lords I have been doing this weekend.  He was no longer listed which caused me to investigate.

He was the son of Guy Raymond Hill WALLACE (died 1967) and Barbara Amy Felicity SMITH, 14th Baroness DUDLEY (1907 - 2002), she was also scion of the COVENTRY earls and many other families of whom we treat.

He m 1962 Nicola Jane DUNSTERVILLE and with her had issue: 2 sons (as above).

His eldest son succeeds him: Jeremy William Guilford WALLACE, 16th Baron DUDLEY [subject to proving his claim] (b 1964).  He m 1992 Wendy Annabel DAVIS, and with her has issue: Dominic (born 1997)

A total of 9 hereditary Barons/suo jure Baronesses have died so far this year.  This is quite high for recent years - see Peerage deaths by year/month

Bear in mind many of the peers alive today (and those who have died recently) have already reached an age where their death is statistically more likely. You will have a period of few peerage deaths and then one of many every few cycles or so.

DPB Online has now updated this page to reflect the 16th Baron, Jeremy William Guilford Wallace (b. 1964).

For an ancient peerage (1439) here aren't many family members.  Still, there are several males, although only 3 are under 40.

Here is the line of succession:

1.  Hon. DOMINIC MATTHEW (b. 1997), son of the Baron.
2. Hon. Nicholas John Hill (b. 1967), brother of the Baron.
3. Hugo Oliver Nicholas, (b. 2002), son of #2.
4. Hon Robin Guy Hill (b. 1936),  Uncle of the Baron.
5. Simon Alexander Hill (b. 1962), son of #4.
6. Andrew George Hill (b. 1964), son of #4.
7. Hon. William John Sutton  (b. 1938), uncle of the  Baron.
8. Guy Edward John Sutton (b. 1963)  son of # 7.
9. Piers William Somery (b. 1965), son of #7.
10. William Elvis Huus (b. 2004), son of #9.

William's parents, Piers and Marilyn, married in July 2004, and William was born on Nov. 3rd.  Tragically, Marilyn died the following day.

Dudley is one of the very few places to have two members of the peerage. The Dudley Barons in former times resided in Dudley Castle now a ruin. The Earls of Dudley resided in Witley Court also a ruin and Himley Hall now an events venue

The Dudley barony was created by writ, so descends to heirs general of the body.  In this case your first 3 heirs are correct,  but after that it will be in abeyance between Hugo's two sisters.

Hi Henry.

Thanks for the correction.

Hopefully, it won't get that far.
