Sorry about the subject line - Richard, can you amend?

Sorry no, there's no way of amending the main heading. All you can do is amend headings in the subsequent posts, which I've done here.

This is very good news.In the absence of Edward Fitzgerald having a son,not only would the Dukedom of Leinster and the Marquessate of Kildare become extinct, but also the Earldom of Kildare which was created in 1316 and is the premier earldom of Ireland.

No matter.  I'm sure all of us who are familiar with the FITZGERALD name, saw the header, and hoped it would be what it is-- the birth of an heir to the hp.

Good news indeed!

Thank you, colinp, for the post.

Looks like the dukedom is safe for now. I thought Leinster became extinct when I saw the heading!

I  would be surprised if this is the last birth we read about for this couple.  They have the 2 older daughters, and now a son, which ensures the line of succession.

But a "spare", to go with the "heir", couldn't hurt!
