Got Writer’s Block? Here are 20 Affiliate Marketing Article Ideas
Halina Zakowicz

Dammit Jim, I’m an affiliate marketer, not a writer.

While it may true that you’d rather spend your days
marketing, researching affiliate niches, or doing just
about anything else besides writing, the truth is that
content is the lifeblood of affiliate marketing. Especially
regular content. So, unless you want to pony up the cash to
hire a writer for your affiliate site, you’re going to be
stuck writing.

Maybe the issue isn’t writing itself, per se, but the fact
that you’ve written just about every content piece under
the sun. You just can’t take any new spins or angles with
your affiliate product.

Or can you?

Sometimes, all it takes is looking at your subject matter
in a different light. And here are 20 different “lighting”
ideas for you to consider.

1. Create a subscriber incentive.
Provide an incentive, such as a free product, for readers
who choose to subscribe to your website. Reward current
subscribers with a prize drawing or some other freebie.

2. Review a fellow affiliate marketer.
If there are affiliate marketers out there in your niche,
don’t ignore them. Instead, feature one or a few of these
marketers. Sure, you might risk putting the spotlight on
them for a little while, but you could attract their
attention (and their audience’s attention) to your website
too.

3. Mentor a subscriber.
This option takes some legwork but is well rewarded by
reader attention, comments and, inevitably, sales.
Mentoring a subscriber also builds reader goodwill and
credibility for you and your product. Finally, the
mentorship can provide an entire series of content pieces
for you to publish over time.

4. Focus on a benefit.
Features are not benefits, yet too many affiliate marketers
tout one as being the other. However, not every reader
understands why feature X is so great. Explain why a given
feature is so wonderful. Then, you are highlighting a
product benefit. This is what will get your readers excited
and wanting to purchase your affiliate product(s).

5. Focus on you.
You might be a little shy and not very willing to talk
about yourself. However, readers love personal stories.
Such transparency on your affiliate site helps readers
identify with you and your struggles, mistakes or successes.
Furthermore, just like with subscriber mentorship, you can
expand your personal story into a series of posts that
chronicle your journey.

6. Focus on a collaborator.
Are you working behind the scenes with someone to create an
e-book, video, etc.? You can highlight this person and the
experience of working with him as well as your dual
motivations for forming such a collaboration. Readers are
often intrigued by such “behind-the-scenes” looks at how
affiliate marketing works and what motivates affiliate
marketers day after day.

7. Create a visual journey.
Sometimes, images speak more strongly than words (and get
you out of writing too). Provide stunning visuals for your
readers to look at and share via social media. For example,
if you’re selling espresso machines, show enticing photos
of novel coffee creations. If you’re selling sneakers, show
images of runners or walkers moving through exotic and lush
locations.

8. Create an acoustic journey.
Podcasts are becoming a very popular means of conveying
information to readers- just look at Pat Flynn’s 110+
podcasts for an example. Many  readers can’t tolerate
reading long blog posts or simply don’t have the time.
However, if you offer another medium for conveying your
message, you’ll not only win new “readers” but get more
reader involvement over the long run too.

9. Create an infographic.
Collect and summarize a bunch of information in an
infographic. Encourage your audience members to share this
infographic on their own blogs and websites, just as long
as they attribute the item to you.

10. Cover local/global events.
There may be local events occurring in your neck of the
woods that feature your affiliate products. Brush up on
your journalist skills and publish a press release that
describes the event and its benefits. You can also take the
same tactic with a global event.

11. Create and cover your own event.
In line with the local event, you could announce that
you’re doing an affiliate product event of your own. This
event doesn’t have to be a big symposium or conference; you
could simply invite your audience to attend an informal
networking party following the local event at an area
restaurant/bar. Meetup makes this process fairly easy.

12. Introduce your own training course.
Write about a new course you are offering on your affiliate
product- for example, you could teach your readers how to
create the best gelato recipes using your gelato makers. If
you sell cosmetics, you could offer a tutorial on the best
shades of lipstick for your skin tone. Course content could
span several posts or be compiled as a single pillar
article.

13. Provide a resources list.
Give your readers a list of resources and product reviews
to peruse. Explain why each resource or review is so
awesome. Don’t forget to take some of the same approaches
when creating your own resources or creating your own
product reviews.

14. Provide tips and tricks.
Sure, there is the instruction manual for your affiliate
product. But maybe you’ve actually used your own products
and can provide special insider’s instructions on getting
the most out of them or prolonging their life. Such insider
information can be quite useful to your audience,
especially if you’re selling expensive affiliate products.

15. Answer reader comments.
Create a post wherein you address individual reader
comments and email questions. You can also use these
questions as a starting point for creating your site’s
FAQ’s section.

16. Dissect a complaint.
Some bloggers shy away from engaging with a complainer or
some reader who is obviously unhappy with the site or its
products. However, such comments are worth their weight in
gold for attracting audience attention, empathy and even
loyalty. Feature one of your “negative Nancy’s” and do your
utmost to generate goodwill in her as well as your readers.

17. Put your audience to work.
Ask your readers what topics they’d like to have you cover.
Provide a questionnaire or survey on your website, then
compile all the answers post them at a later date.

18. Ask for guest posts.
Ask for guest posts from individual readers on their
experiences with your affiliate products, what interesting
benefits they’ve discovered thanks to using those products,
and what features they wish the products had. You can
compensate your readers with a freebie or a flat rate
payment for their stories.

19. Write a guest post and link to it.
Get published on a guest website or blog and then link from
that post to a related post on your own website. Doing so
expands on your guested subject matter and brings in a new
audience to your website.

20. Start a competition.
Get your audience riled up by asking them to participate in
individual or team-based competitions. Have the objective
involve your affiliate product in some way- for example, if
you sell exercise weights, ask your readers to tally how
much muscle mass they gain. Offer a prize to the winner and
runners up.
