Thursday Devotion

When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, "What are
you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means
Teacher), "where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come and see."
They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him
that day.

John 1:38-39

“Where are you staying?” This is how discipleship begins. We are
invited to see where Jesus is in this world and then to remain with
him.

A mentally tortured man comes upon a crowd and starts shooting.
Jesus, where are you staying? Come and see. Where there is sadness
and despair and confusion, there is Jesus. Where there is compassion,
there is Jesus. Where there is forgiveness and desire to understand
rather point fingers and blame, there is Jesus. Come and see.
Where there is love, there is where Jesus is staying. Come and see
and remain with him this day.

Dearest Jesus, our teacher, in the midst of suffering and sorrow and
confusion, give us grace to come and see where you are staying in this
world that we may remain with you. Amen.
