I thank, praise and glorify you, my Lord Christ, with heart and voice
before the world that you are merciful to me and do help me. This I
have received in baptism, that you and one other shall be my Lord and
God. Amen

Martin Luther’s thanksgiving prayer for baptism.

Baptism was everything for Martin Luther. Baptism is God’s promise to
us that we belong to Christ and no other. And this is God’s doing,
not our own. We did not “make a decision for Christ”, God claimed us
as our own in Baptism.
Martin Luther used to counsel those who doubted their faith to
remember their baptism.

“To appreciate and use Baptism aright, we must draw strength and
comfort from it when our sins or conscience oppress us and we must
retort, “But I am baptized! And If I am baptized, Ihave the promise
that I shall be saved and have eternal life, both in soul and in
body”
Martin Luther, Large Catechism

Put your trust in God’s promise, not even your own faith he advised.
You can’t always trust your own faith. You can always trust God’s
promise.

Gracious and loving Christ, we thank you again that in our baptism you
and none other shall be our Lord and God. Amen.
