Hello Fellow Passport Owners,
I am mid refit of a 1999 Passport 456 AC. Passport 47 owners are likely to have a similar bow arrangements.

I am considering replacement of 65# CQR anchor with (5/16” chain) for a Rocna 33 (75#) with 3/8” chain.

Does anyone have similar set up?
If so, I am would be thankful for photos for fit.
We’re bow modifications required?
What windlass you are using accordingly?
Lastly, if you are using the recommended 3/8” chain, how many feet of chain are you able to accommodate in the chain locker?
I appreciate any and all feed back in this regard.
Ir preferred, feel free to use this email for reply’s.
Thank you.

Hi Joe, if you are unaware of it, there's a series of anchor test videos by the S/V Panope channel on youtube https://www.youtube.com/user/flygoodwin The author offers a spreadsheet of anchor characteristic comparisons on their site and includes it in some videos. You will likely be able to find the anchor you are considering and see for yourself how it has performed.

We bought an Excel for our 40' Passport and picked it up in Sidney BC on our (3.5 month) trip back from the Broughtons. This anchor rated well and I am, if it is possible, infatuated with it. It is far better than the CQR we borrowed.

I won't answer most of your questions as we do not have the same boat. However, we use 300' of 3/8" HT chain line as it matches our Nilsson windlass wildcat (and 100' of line). This windlass is a time-tested champion. It is made entirely of quality metal parts. I believe it's the original windlass and it functions as if it were brand new.

Best regards,
Jeremy
