I am intending to replace all the original bronze thru-hulls and stopcocks in the coming month. There are 6 below the waterline (head, galley sink outlet, motor intake, galley intake, and the 2 cockpit drains). They are now 42 years old and i have contemplated removing them the last 2 times whilst on the hard, they seemed to be of such a good quality however i think it would be wise to replace them just the same.

The 3 inlets are of similar size, maybe 3/4" in diameter and the galley sink about 1" or more; the large cockpit drains are huge. Has anyone recorded diameters through the hull for any of these 6 openings? .....keeping in mind that each P40 may differ.

Any help much appreciated,
Regards Scott

Service them.  Then exercise them quarterly.

If they are tapered replace them.

Thanks,

John

On hull number 132:
Cockpit drains 1.5"
Aft head discharge 1.25"
Aft head supply 0.75"
Galley supply 0.75"
Galley sink drain 1.25"
Engine supply 1.25"
Shower discharge 0.75"
Forward Head supply 0.75"
Forward Head discharge 1.5"
Forward Head sink discharge 1.25"

We just replaced all the skin fittings and valves with Trudesign composite ones as we are in New Zealand. As near as I could tell the bodies of the old ones were ok but the stainless balls were pitted and did not seal properly. Some were very very hard to operate despite lubing them at every haul out.

Cheers,
Ken
