Thanks for being part of our Park Listserv community! To ensure the best possible experience for all Listserv members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation. We will periodically send this document out to the section lists as a friendly reminder for experienced users and to assist newer users with listserv operations. The guidelines will also be posted on the landing page of the Google Group. By using the Park Listserv, you agree that you have read and will follow the guidelines set for these discussion groups. You also agree to reserve list discussions for topics best suited to the medium.

The listserv is open to Upper School Students, Parents/Guardians, Grandparents, Alumni, Parents of Alumni, Faculty & Staff at Park.

Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, contact the parent listserv managers at listservmanagers@gmail.com. In order to preserve a climate that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, the Listserv managers reserves the right to suspend, moderate, or terminate membership on all lists for members who violate these terms.

THE RULES - THE DON’T'S

Do not "flame," challenge or attack others. The discussions on the lists are meant to stimulate conversation, not to create contention. Flaming includes the making of derogatory comments, ridicule, excessive sarcasm and innuendo. Let others have their say, just as you have yours. Choose your words carefully to make sure you aren’t accidentally doing this.
Do not post anything in a listserv message that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
Do not forward any discussion or post to another person or listserv. It might seem innocuous, or even helpful, but the parties that posted here may not want their email address, or any other information that they shared, sent to a larger audience.
Do not use this forum for discussions about classroom life and/or teachers. If there is a concern of this nature, you should reach out to a teacher, administration, or class grade rep.

THE RULES - THE DO’S

It’s ok to share your business, art show, yoga class, or town hall meeting. We want to know what you do, and support you! This is not license, however, to overuse the platform. In general, share something once a year (for new members to see), or if someone specifically seeks out the information.
It’s ok to share information that is political in nature (a rally, a bill you support, a phone bank), but in general, it’s not the best forum to debate topics.
If you have someone to recommend (a tutor, a landscaper, a doctor), feel free to! Do not, however, encourage that person to join the listserv themselves (because they can’t, unless they are otherwise a member of the Park community - parent, faculty, etc!).
Encourage new parents, alumni, etc to join!
Humor is fine, just remember it can sometimes be misinterpreted.
Check the language that you use, before you post. Does it contain microaggressions? Make this a safe and comfortable space for everyone.
You can change your settings to receive every post as it's sent, a daily digest of all posts that day, or no email, and you can just check the webpage.

LISTSERV ETIQUETTE

Include a signature tag on all messages. Include your name, connection to the school, and e-mail address.
State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
Include only the relevant portions of the original message in your reply. Delete any header information, and put your response before the original posting.
Only send a message to the entire list when it contains information that benefits everyone.
Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals--not to the entire list. Do this by using your e-mail application's forwarding option and typing in or cutting and pasting in the e-mail address of the individual to whom you want to respond.
Do not send administrative messages, such as "remove me from the list", through the listserv. To unsubscribe from the list, follow the directions at the bottom of the listserv email message.
Warn other list subscribers of lengthy messages either in the subject line or at the beginning of the message body with a line that says "Long Message."
When using an Auto Reply message for times you are out of the office, please be sure to "Create a Rule" (this is easily done with Microsoft Outlook’s Out of Office Assistant) that would prohibit sending the message to the list.
