Hi there,
I rarely write to newsgroups but I find myself in a very tough situation,
and would appreciate all the advice I can get from other parents with
experience. I am a mother of 4 children ages 9, 6, 2 and a half, and 4
weeks. My 2 year old is having a very hard time adjusting to the fact that
the baby has taken the spotlight off her. I try to give her extra love and
attention every possible chance I get, but it seems like it does not help.
She was toilet trained fully for a month before the baby was born. Last
week, she started having what I think were accidents. At first she started
peeing in bed every night, then she started peeing in her pants every day at
home. Then she started peeing in her pants in daycare. It's like she forgot
that the bathroom exists. When I ask her where she is supposed to make, she
says in the toilet. But then she makes everywhere else. My hubby says that
she is looking for more attention. I just don't see how that is possible
since she pees in bed in her sleep. I don't think she does that consciously.
I have a big lack of sleep because of the newborn, and this new situation
with my 2 year old is not helping my sanity.Does anyone have any words of
wisdom?

It is natural with a new baby that the "previous baby" in the house is
feeling insecure and this can cause her to forget toilet training etc. You
just need to reassure her that you love her and try giving her a special
baby doll and let her feed it when you are feeding the baby and maybe bathe
it when you are bathing the new baby and I know it is difficult but try
finding books at the library about new babies to read to her so she knows
that this happens frequently
