There is no vow like chanting the holy name, no knowledge superior to it, no meditation which comes anywhere near it, and it gives the highest result. No penance is equal to it, and nothing is as potent or powerful as the holy name. (Adi Purana)

Dear devotees

Please accept my blessings

All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

We are in Purusottam month, an extra month that happens every four years. Why is the Purusottam month so special? According to Brihad Naradiya Purusottam Masa Mahatmya, Padma Purana, the most auspicious month of Purusottam not only was created personally by Swayam Bhagavan Sri, but he also gave this month His own name.

As Sri Krsna is the source of all the Avataras or incarnations, the month of Purusottam is the supreme, the best, the most powerful month among the twelve months of the year, the one that bestows the best spiritual benefits.

The Purusotam month is the most sacred of the months, very superior to the pious months of Magha, Vaisakha and Karttika, which are glorify by the Vedas as the best three…Not only on this planet Earth but in the whole universe Purusottam month is honored and worshiped by all the devotees, sages, demigods and by Laksmi Devi personally.

There are many options for the vratas (vows) that can be observed during this month, like: eating only once daily, avoid grains for one month, etc…But the supreme vote is to worship Sri Krsna chanting japa and worshiping His Murti (form).

A devote can make a vow to read Krishna Book every day, or chant the fifteenth chapter of Bhagavad-Gita, called Purusottam-Yoga. O chanting Jagannathastakam, as Sri Jagannath is Sri Purusottam, one who lives in Purusottam Ksetra Jagannath Puri Dham.

Here in Maharashtra the Purusottam Masa is observed. Pandharpur is full duing the whole month. Millions of pilgrims come here to practice bhajans.

Everywhere in Maharashtra families invite devotees and friends and offer first class Prasad. We are frequently invited for Nama-hattas and prasad during this month.

I ask you to promote meetings in you houses during this auspicious month of Purusottam. Simply sit together, do bhajans and read Krsna- Lila. Simple and highly beneficial in all aspects.

Benefits of the Purusottam Masa Vrata

If one sincerely worships Sri Sri Radha-Krsna during the Purusottam month he will get everything he desires. One who observes the Purusottam Vrata burns all the reactions of his bad karma and achieves direct sevice of Sri Sri Radha-Krsna. The Purusottam month is the best month for spiritual advancement because Sri Krsna does not count the offences.

The month of Purusottam started on the 18 of August and finishes on the 16 of September.  Caturmasya is not observed during the Purusottam.
