Friends,

We had identified two parallel tracks to work on in this group. We had earlier discussed Pilot Projects for Track 2. Let us see what can be done on track 1 below :

1. BRAIN-STORMING THINK-TANK FOR STRATEGIC POLICY INITIATIVES :

This is for arm-chair strategists (Pl don’t read anything derogative in this term) to think out workable initiatives in order to make a Macro Difference to the nation. These could be policy matters like Political Reforms, Electoral Reforms, Education Reforms, Administrative Reforms, Curbing Corruption etc – game-changing ideas that can change the face of the nation in one sweep. We need to work on ACTION PLANS rather than pure esoteric discussions.

A. It has been proposed that this group could take up ELECTORAL REFORMS as an Action Plan in this track. We have not made much progress since then.

B. I recently came across the " FINAL COMMON MINIMUM PROGRAMME FOR POLITICAL PARTIES" (pl see attchment) drafted by Sanjiv sablok of the newly launched party "Sone ki

Chidiya". Pl see if there is some ACTION PLAN possible on the ideas expressed therein.

C. I would like to suggest an ACTION PLAN to formulate rational, workable & enforcable MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & STANDARDS FOR CANDIDATES to     a) Parliament      b) State

Assembly     c) Local Bodies like Municipality. Good governance requires good representatives - how do we find them?

I hope these ideas would find some response among the members who would be willing to take up leadership on any specific ideas as an ACTION PROJECT.

On this track of  BRAIN-STORMIMG THINK-TANK  FOR STRATEGIC POLICY INITIATIVES  here is a useful link:

It is about GOVERMENT TRANSFORMATION PROGRAMME (GTP) to fight corruption in Malayasia. The key elements are:

  • Establish Compliance Units in Key Enforcement Agencies
  • Whistleblowing Protection for Civil Servants
  • Expediting Corruption Trials, ‘Name and Shame’ Database
  • Stamping Out Corruption from Government Procurement, Corporates
Please go thru it at leisure; maybe we can get some ideas which we can put into an ACTION PLAN.

Dear Friends,

Please find a recent news item AAP PICKS CANDIDATES in the attachment.

ARVIND KEJRIWAL's newly launched Political Initiative AAM AADMI PARTY is in the process of selecting candidates for all the 70 assembly seats of Delhi state that will go to poll in November this year.
There is an elaborate process in place for selection of candidates - transparency & accountability seem to be the factors governing the choice rather than vote bank politics.

Can WE, PanIIT ACTION INDIA find a suitable matrix to decide the minimum criteria & Qualifications for State Assembly Candidates? Some of us have extensive & varied HR experience - this would not be a theoretical exercise - the results can actually be used to find the next lot of honest & capable candidates to clean up the political cesspool.

Would someone like to take a lead, form a team & come up with an ACTION PLAN.

CKJ  ,
first convince AAP  to do away with the ignoble GANDHI CAP  and the attire which the Congress/All politicians   hav misused and brought the worst reputation to in the last 60+years of their version of politics ..then we can move forward .
the very look  give me an aversion ..maybe others may share the same feelings

best

Sanjay,

The cadre of every political outfit has to have an identifiable symbol - a GANDHI CAP with AAM AADMI PARTY printed on it seems like a clear identity. Nobody is likely to confuse it with a congress Gandhi Cap - & Gandhi (Mohan Das, the Mahatma) remains an embodiment of what is good in politics, even today (ok, there may be some contrarian views but ..........).

Any alternatives to the GANDHI CAP? A Sola Hat? A Golf Cap? A Turban? A Kulu Cap? A Fur Cap? A Baseball Cap? A Beret? A Sailer Cap? A Top Hat? A Fez?

Why even a head gear? It could be some other symbol. A head-band? A color Shirt? Brown Shorts? A scarf around the neck? Any suggestions???

Anyway, we need to look at the contents, the politics, the track record of the man behind it all, ARVIND KEJRIWAL rather than the peripherals which are probably a necessary & integral part of the process of mobilizing masses - all sections of the society - the proletariat as well as the elite & intelligentsia. The attire should not put us off - let us try to look beyond the attire.

REMINDER

This is still a workable proposition

Whatever we decide can actually be useful for choosing AAP candidates for Delhi Assembly elections later this year. It would not require any legislative approval - our efforts can actually result in providing a ready reckoner to TEAM ARVIND KEJRIWAL for choosing better candidates
