A joint IUBS – INQUA meeting for Early Career Researchers |
The International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS), International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA), and International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS) are planning an international event for Early Career Researchers (ECR). This gathering, set to |
take place in China in November 2025, aims to facilitate discussions on biodiversity changes and biome evolution. ECRs interested in contributing to the meeting's organization can express their interest by submitting a motivation letter, CV, and application form to INQUA or IUBS secretariats at in...@inqua.org or secre...@iubs.org. More details are available here. |

3rd INQUA-PAGES ECR workshop TROPQUA 2024 |
The 3rd joint INQUA—PAGES workshop for early-career researchers (ECRs) will take place from November 3rd to 7th, 2024, at CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, India. |
| This workshop aims to bring together ECRs investigating tropical climate hydrodynamics in the Quaternary based on proxy data and climate models, with the common goal of bridging the gap between these two components of research and fostering collaboration. The first circular is available here. Visit the TROPQUA 2024 website for more details or email at tropq...@gmail.com. |

Daniela Piraquive Bermudez is a Colombian palaeoecologist and guest researcher at the Max Planck Institute of Biogeochemistry in Jena (Germany). She is interested in quantifying the impact of climate and land use on past, present and future biodiversity in the tropics and sub-tropics of South America. To explore these topics, Daniela employs a wide range of proxies in the fossil record, including pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs (NPPs), charcoal, fecal and leaf-wax biomarkers, isotopes, and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) data. |
As a 2024 INQUA fellow, she has received support for lab work and biogeochemistry training and attended the INQUA Rome 2023 conference. Currently, she studies the Holocene history of local human occupation and livestock inferred from fecal biomarkers in a sedimentary record located within the Araucaria forest – Grasslands mosaics in the highlands of Paraná, southern Brazil. The INQUA fellowship programme has significantly enhanced Daniela’s skills and research profile in the Quaternary Sciences. |
