Dear Friends of Paleosols,

I’d like to remind you about the upcoming "Soils For Our Future: A Gathering of Global to Local Perspectives" Conference, a joint event involving IUSS Division 1, the 5th Global Soil Security Conference, and the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Canadian Society of Soil Science. The conference will take place in Winnipeg, Canada, from July 20–25, 2025. More details can be found on the event website:  www.soilsforourfuture.ca. The call for abstract submissions is open until March 31, 2025.

We would like to draw your attention to our Commission 1.6 session, Soils of the Past for Present and Future, which will explore how past soils have shaped the current state of soil systems and the soil mantle, as well as how we can predict future developments based on our understanding of soils from both the past and present.

In addition to a wide range of scientific sessions, the IUSS Division 1 Meeting – "Pedology 2025 and Beyond" will take place on Sunday, July 20. The goal of this meeting is to develop a vision and strategy for the evolution of Division 1, its Commissions, and its Working Groups. The plenary sessions will provide a platform for presenting state-of-the-art research, emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in pedology.

As current Commission 1.6 officers, we have been asked to gather input from our community on key research advancements, trends, challenges, and future directions relevant to paloepedology to present at the Division 1 Meeting. If you have any ideas or insights to share, please reply to this letter in the group or email at maria.br...@ttu.edu. We will do our best to incorporate your contributions into our presentation and discussion.

We look forward to seeing many of you in Winnipeg!

All the best,
Maria Bronnikova
