Hi Jess,
I have been struggling with media mapping for the past week, and have
started this discussion: http://groups.google.com/group/PakReport-volunteers/browse_thread/thread/521852c9ae51da4f#

Do you know anybody who could help me out with this?

I really want to help, but just need to get over the hump.

Thanks,
Sophie

Sophie,
didn't you receive my answer? I sent you an e-mail two days ago
answering to all your questions. Please let me if you need additional
help.

If you didn't receive it, here is my answer to your first e-mail.

Dear Sophie,

1. Can you verify or correct my understanding?
Your understanding of the media monitoring is perfect and I don't need
to add anything to that.

2. Maybe it is just me, but I can't find any good sources to monitor
by using the list in the spreadsheet. Since I am new to this, I am
assuming that breaking news information is still very scarce and
unavailable. I also assume this because no one else has signed up to
monitor. Is this true?

You have monitored all the available sources listed and find no
information on the flood?? This is very weird! I know for sure that
for example the UN sites have lots of updates on the situation in the
ground!

Also, we are not looking for breaking news, but for every possible
information we can find on the flood. Also, people do subscribe to do
media monitoring, in fact lots of reports are coming from the media
monitoring, but they delete their name from the spreadsheet after they
finish.

3. Therefore, even though it seems more difficult, can I help best by
doing mapping? Please let me know. I am eager to get involved.

Darling you can do everything you want. If you prefer you can work on
CrowdFlower, which is a bit easier. If you need some help, please add
me as friend on Skype (my skype ID is below in the signature) and I
will add you to the Volunteers Chat, so the I can also help you on
line! :)

Please let me know if need anything more.

Thank you very much for doing this!!!

Cheers,
Anahi

Hi Anahi,
So sorry, but did not see this before, but I am thrilled at your
response and will sign up as soon as I can create a window! One more
question: I visited the report page, and that seems straightforward.
But since we are looking for "for every possible information we can
find on the flood," what's the point of signing up? (people could do
it concurrently or not, it doesn't matter?) I sense there's still a
piece of the puzzle I don't understand. Also, what would prevent
people from duplicating efforts? When you're signed up, you monitor
that source, but most of them are days behind (it's not breaking
news).

We are connected on Skype, but I am not sure if I am apart of the
volunteer chat. I see discussions pop up, but I don't know how to
contact the group, for example, if I had a question. They are not
visible in my connections list.
