Arthur L. “Jack” Owens, 87, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 16 with family at his side. He was born in Littleton, Colorado June 24, 1927. His family moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1941 where he attended Pacific Grove High School. He proudly served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He and his wife, Carolyn were married in Monterey in 1947. Employed by Pacific Gas & Electric for 38 years, he began his career in Monterey and retired while living in Red Bluff. Starting as a mechanic, he rose to the position of Transportation Superintendent in the Shasta Division. Jack was great with kids. He was a Little League coach for both of his sons and also patiently taught many, many of his children's friends to water ski. He enjoyed many other activities before and after his retirement including riding dirt bikes, restoring automobiles, golfing, and playing cards and other games with family. He was active in the Masons for many years and became Worshipful Master of the Blue Lodge #84 in Red Bluff. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Owens of Hollister, his children; Sherry O'Reilly (Pat) of Las Vegas, Alan Owens (Lois) of Hollister, Marty (Jeanne) of Benicia, grandchildren, Allison and Aron Owens, Matt, Chris, and Kellie Owens, his sister Inez Kirkman of Monterey, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Nettie Owens, his brothers Don and Leroy Owens, and his sister, Sarah Minearo. A private celebration of Jack's life will be held at a future date.
