Ok, let me fill y'all in on what is happening.
As you know, the school district couldn't be bothered to tell us the band room was occupied, even though they scheduled the Middle school district festivals months in advance. Ultimately this cannot be helped, and LWHS doesn't feel obligated to throw us a
bone on the matter. It is what it is in their eyes, and we are left to figure it out on our own.
All attempts to find an alternative venue have been met with failure. Juanita, Woodinville, etc... All occupied or unavailable to us. An attempt to find a place was made, and that is all I can ask for in this instance. This leads us to the last bit, what are
we gonna do about it?
Well, Concert Band will run as per usual, through no fault of their own. Same bat time, same bat channel.
I am going to cancel rehearsal 1 of the 2 weeks the room is unavailable. That will be my compromise. This week we will not have rehearsal.
The week of the 22nd, I am just holding rehearsal at the barn (permission pending), and people are just going to have to figure it out how they wish to handle it. I absolutely LOATHE putting you all in this position, but there isn't really any getting around
it. You will have to choose one of three paths. I hope I can ease your minds regardless how you choose.
-
You choose not to show at my rehearsal at all, and just go to concert band: I will bear no malice at all. I get it. ZERO repercussions.
-
You choose to come to Jazz band, and not concert band at all: If anyone hassles you at all (I highly doubt anyone will), you will have my full support and protection. You will not face consequences as long as
I'm director.
-
You choose to go to both, and are just late to concert band/leave early from jazz: Same as number 2. I put you in this situation, I will not come after you for dealing with it the best you can.
I want to stress one last thing on this. I do honestly believe the board, and President David Spengler did their best on this one. They are not the enemy here. Even more honestly, I think they did pretty honorably while dealing with my cranky ass. Sometimes
you just have to play a losing hand as best you can, and that is what we will have to do.
People in both bands, I am truly sorry. I didn't want this to play out the way it did. I really didn't. It is my hope that at least you will know that I won't be taking it personally whatever path you choose. I do encourage you all to be in both bands, and
get the most well rounded music education you can get. It is my hope this will be a fluke thing, a convergance of bad luck, and not a recurring thing.
PS: Use the same set list we would have used for the 15th, and now you have more time to practice for it.
PPS: Let me know if you decide not to attend the 22nd so I know what to expect
PPPS: I miss all of you
