to People’s Water Board Coalition
💧 The cost of living: Basic human needs are getting more expensive — from food and health care to the gas and electricity heating your home. Now, water bills in Southeast Michigan are on the way up too, facing their highest increase in 10 years, as the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) plans to raise its prices. If the new charges are approved, most towns and cities served by GLWA will see increases of nearly 7% for water delivery and 6% for sewage disposal. GLWA estimates a typical home in its service area will pay an extra $3.50 monthly, to fix infrastructure and cover rising operation costs. For those on fixed incomes or already struggling to pay their bills, it’s another pinch on the pocket. GLWA’s board of directors will hold a public hearing Feb. 25, just minutes before voting on the increases. Residents are encouraged to attend and address the board.
