Joshua Garcia and Ben Grosscup will join April 6 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the Pioneer Valley
Folklore Society Song & Story Swap.

Saturday, April 6, 7:00 p.m. at The Nacul Center, 592 Main St., Amherst,
Mass.

Topical singer-songwriters Joshua Garcia and Ben Grosscup will be the
featured performers at the April 6 Song & Story Swap.

Joshua Garcia is a songwriter whose poignant lyrics and heartfelt vocals
have evoked comparisons to Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, and Bob Dylan, his
boyhood idols. Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Joshua now
resides in Astoria, Queens. With his strong baritone, wide-ranging blues
style guitar work, and deadpan sense of humor, Joshua has gone from a
virtual unknown to one of the most sought after singers in the NYC folk
world.

Ben Grosscup leads songs at picket lines, rallies, marches, conferences, and
house concerts to inspire and agitate for justice and peace. Drawing upon
activist folk singing traditions, he brings new songs to the
movement-building spaces where they are most relevant. He has worked with
unions and social justice groups to raise political consciousness and enjoin
people to sing together for a common purpose. Ben performs a wide range of
politically inspired music, much of it original. He is working on his debut
CD release.

Based in Greenfield, Ben Grosscup is currently the Executive Director of
People's Music Network (www.peoplesmusic.org), a diverse community of
singers, artists and activists promoting a just and peaceful world. The
organization was founded in 1977 by Pete Seeger and Charlie King.

Catch Joshua Garcia and Ben Grosscup performing at the Song & Story Swap in
Amherst on April 6.

The opening round theme this month is 'Public Officials'.

Looking ahead to next month, the Song & Story Swap guest for May 4 will be
singer-songwriter Gordon Kramer, and the opening round theme will be Spirit.
The Song & Story Swap is held on the first Saturday of each month, excepting
July and August, and is jointly sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Folklore
Society and the Nacul Center (http://tiaarchitects.com/nacul). Visit the
Folklore Society website at http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.

The Song & Story Swap is open to the public, free of charge with donations
accepted ($5 - $10 is suggested). People of all ages gather to share
stories and songs that are traditional, newly written, or of personal
experiences. You can tell, sing, or lead everyone in singing, or request a
song or story. Listeners are welcome.
