Sail Away (will be in next month's Telltale)

Through three decades, Carol and I have treasured the POYC sailors and
life at the club property. The camaraderie shared with fellow sailors
has made our stay in BG so very rich. The changes in the club have
been primarily in the treasured memories of sailors and their families
with whom we have shared some great times, while the facilities have
remained largely intact since joining in 1977.

Time has come. We tried this gambit 2 years ago and could not leave.
This year, however, we are signed, sealed and delivered, well almost.
We have accepted an invitation from Peace Corps to serve 27 months in
the Ukraine. We are leaving Sept. 25, 2008. This is will be our last
sailing season with the club for at least two years. When we return
from Peace Corps, we are uncertain of our future residence. Luckily
for us, our son and his wife would like to "reacquaint themselves"
with sailing so they are taking our Catalina 22. The Flying Scot is
for sale.
For Carol and me, we would like to thank the POYC membership for
allowing us the opportunity to fully participate in club life. We
have enjoyed serving in various capacities on the POYC board. Whether
sailing with POYC sailors on Barren River, the Great Lakes, Kentucky
Lake, or the Caribbean, these adventures have given us memories and
stories for a life-time! Being part of the POYC sailing community is
a treasured memory of our 32 years in BG.

We do not necessarily view this as leaving POYC, but rather
establishing POYC on the Black Sea! There is always the possibility
of sailing and showing the POYC burgee in a foreign port or two! Keep
in contact, our e-mail is frank.kersting@wkuedu and visitors are
always most welcome. Sailing and POYC friendship share a common
feature: although the ship may creak in weather, it is sturdy and
reliable, so too are the friends we have in the yacht club.

Wind's up, time to sail,

Commodore Carol Kersting, Commodore Frank Kersting
