For the Sept 2021 VHF Contest I did a zero-preparation 4 grid rove on Saturday.  I actually did prepare a small bit, I brought a pen.  For paper I had an legal sized envelope from the errand and managed to just fit all 100+ QSOs onto it.  Had to open it up to write on the inside. I operated from home late Saturday night and Sunday.  Submitted separate logs.

I headed out to run an errand in town before the contest started and decided to keep on driving.  The truck has been in Florida since 2016 and is now back up here. The daily driver configuration is Loops on 2M and 432, 1/4w vertical on 6M.  Screwdriver HF antenna on the side at times.  IC-706mkIIG in the cab plus power distribution for lots more in full contest dress.

My focus was on activating CN98 so went to Green Mtn, had not been up there recently.  It was de-brushed recently and the road was in reasonably good condition, far better than the nearby Mt. Pilchuck road has ever been as far as I can remember.   The potholes on Mt Pilchuck road can swallow small cars.  The bench road and the bench itself has grown over a lot. I was up there a year or 2 ago in my Jeep.  Would not have liked taking the truck then, the low hanging branches on the bench road were many.

On Green Mtn, I took a wrong turn initially going left at the bottom instead of right, so ended up low and on the north side, made some contacts but lost some time. Doubled back and got onto NF4110 and arrived at the proper spot at 3K ft.

It rained hours earlier so had wet puddles and no dust.  Someone clipped the top of a small tree to open up the view SSE. Mt Pilchuck is on the immediate left behind the tree on the left and partially blocks the view direct south.

Raw score results are:

Home:

72 QSOs, 102pts, 18mults 1836 score. Operated Sat night late and most of Sunday.

6M 25 Q, 3 grids

2M 22 Q, 6 grids

1.25 8 Q 3 grids

70  12 Q, 3 grids

903  2 Q, 1 grid

1296 3 Q, 2 grids.

The 1296 results are very low.  I do as good or better most Sunday mornings!

Rover:

105 QSOs, 127pts, 17mults 2159 score.  Operated about 7 hours including drive time and grocery shopping 😊

6M 31 Q, 4 grids

2M 52 Q, 5 grids

70  22 Q, 4 grids

Rover route was Camano Island CN88, to Green Mtn CN98 via Marysville to Granite Falls, back to Granite Falls and south on Robe Menzel Lake road to Lake Roesigor where the CN98/97 grid line is, and just east of the 87/88 grid line, then west into CN87 to I5 in Everett and north back to Camano Island CN88.  Lake Roesigor Lake Roesiger | Snohomish County, WA - Official Website (snohomishcountywa.gov) is about 600ft Altitude and is in the NW corner of CN97 so hitting CN98, 97, and CN87 is just a few miles drive.  CN88 is not far either.  I explored Monroe Camp road to the east of the lake where it dead ends at Lake Champlain.  It stayed at 600ft with dips, did not offer anything better.

2M and 70cm loops on each corner on shrot masts, spring loaded mast bases for tree branch protection.  6M 1/4w whip in the middle.  Hard to see the 6M and 70cm in this picture.  All on top of the headache rack.
