I'll only do a brief rant this morning. K5TRA retired from Triquint a few years ago and moved back to Texas. Tom was afflicted with the "Only Perfect is Good Enough" gene. This is how Tom builds beacons http://www.k5rmg.com/Pages/Presentation%20Files/newbeacons.pdf  We should all strive for this kind of workmanship.... end rant mode.

Very nice - and I would expect this quality of work from someone who retired from Triquint.

On the other side of the spectrum - we have this which was the 222/432 beacon at K7RAT phase one (before K7FL took over):

Actually - I am thinking of putting this back on the air down here in CN85tj since with the K7FL beacons moving to CN87 - we no longer have a useful beacon down here in Portland to make sure our junk works.

Tom's work is pretty easy to replicate. Unless there's something special about the transmitter in the FM handheld, Tom's design is probably a good choice. If there is interest, I'll have Tom send me the board details and I'll build a few, all of the parts come from Digikey. I don't have access to any decent site to put up a beacon. The last place I'd ever want one is at home! I can't imagine that any commercial 2-way site owner would allow anything that looks like a re-purposed hand held to be installed. The K5TRA design is small enough and looks cool enough that you might be able to talk it into a "real" mountain top radio site. I'm sure I could prove performance well enough to satisfy any site manager. These beacons can be built for a few hundred bucks each, in single quantities from retail parts, we can set them to any frequencies we like.

If the group is interested, I'll build radios. Someone else will have to come up with a site to put them, install antennas (I have heliax and connectors) and do regular maintenance.

Thank you,  this will be very helpful.  I need to build a very low power unit to put at my office to verify my EME antenna patterns
