Folks,

Looking to up my game from 100 watts +/- to 500 watts.  I would buy a 6m only amp but they just don't make them anymore.  It would be nice if it would run on 120 VAC but I can probably borrow a 240VAC Honda or related generator if needed.   This is for a portable contest station.  I am thinking of a KPA-500 but I am looking for other suggestions.  If one of you has something that covers 6m and is surplus to your needs let me know.  I'd like to put a bigger voice out from  DN18.

Get a Harris RF deck or a Larcan 4 or 6 fet deck.
Either will do 500w ALL DAY LONG.. heck, 1000w all day long.
You can find them on the various reflectors for $250-$400.
Another $100 in parts (with shipping) and a few hours of time and you are rocking and rolling.
Lance's site has info on the Harris decks.

If you want a 500w amp that runs directly from 48v LiFePO4 batteries then look at Mercury Lite by KM3KM. https://km3km.com/shop/ols/products/mercury-lite

It’s good for HF through 6m and weighs 14 lb. Perfect for portable contest stations of all types. A big advantage of batteries is that no power supply means no switching noise.

The alternatives are an M2 6m51k2, or the Harris/Larcan RF deck. I wish more mfr’s offered 48v SSPA.

I use to run a Harris surplus TV amp at 1000w.  Sold it and bought a w6pql 1200w HF/6m amp pallet (assembled) and est will have $1500 invested when I finish mechanical assembly:
1 KW SSPA for 1.8-54 MHz
KL7UW HF AMPLIFIER

also building a 500w 2m amp that uses two MRF-300.

Hi John, I bought a KPA500 last year for my first amp and love it.  I run it on 120v at full power with no issues.  The amp meter on the amplifier says I’m drawing less than 9a. You can run it above 500w for short period of time and I usually keep it set around 300w. Use it on 6m and HF with great success using Moxons and a 4BTV and a 4 element Arrow 6m Yagi

I also bought their tuner but don’t use it much as all my antennas are fairly resonant

I did look at a used one and based
On the serial number it was at least 10 years old which is outside my comfort zone for the price

There are two others in our local club running
KPA’s with no issues. Several of our club members are running Mercury amps and report no issues
