Excuse my ignorance: what is "CQ TEST" on FT8?

My instincts tell me this is related to the contest, but I don't get it.

I also see a lot of stations contacting each other but 1) don't appear to be responding to a CQ call. and 2) I called CW with my call and grid number (the contest exchange) and didn't get any response.

What do I need to change in order to actually get some contacts for the contest, or do I just need to go to sideband ;-)

Go to SETTINGS->Advanced and check special operating activity.

The messages change to add test, short for contest.

Thanks!!!! I don't know why it didn't occur to me that "contest" is a long word when you have a 13 character limit.
