Subject: Fwd: Elev Cert
Justin,
I got this email from Todd Beattie regarding a free on-line zoom training session for FEMA Elevation Certificates.
Please forward this email to our PLSC chapter members.
Thanks,
Good Afternoon, Colorado Floodplain Administrators -
I am pleased to offer this upcoming training opportunity.
The Elevation Certificate (EC) remains one of the most important tools available to local communities for administering floodplain regulations, supporting sound development decisions, and strengthening long-term resilience. When completed accurately, the EC does far more than document elevations—it helps ensure compliance, informs insurance outcomes, and supports safer building practices across Colorado.
To support our local partners, the Colorado Water Conservation Board is offering a free, 3-hour virtual training focused on completing, reviewing, and using the FEMA Elevation Certificate correctly and consistently.
Two identical sessions are available (please register for only one):
Option 1:
March 11 | 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM (MT)
Registration Link:
EC Option 1 March 11
Option 2:
April 09 | 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM (MT)
Registration Link:
EC Option 2 April 09
What This Training Will Cover
· Proper completion of the current FEMA Elevation Certificate
· Roles and responsibilities of the EC certifier and the local official
· How ECs support ordinance compliance and risk reduction
· Common errors and how to avoid them
· Practical application for day-to-day floodplain administration
This session is designed primarily for local floodplain administrators but will also benefit surveyors, engineers, and other consultants who prepare or review Elevation Certificates.
Continuing Education Credits:
3 CECs will be available for Certified Floodplain Managers (CFMs).
Whether you regularly review Elevation Certificates or simply want greater confidence in how they support regulatory compliance and community resilience, this training will provide practical insight and reinforce best practices.
I encourage you to take advantage of this no-cost professional development opportunity and share it with colleagues who may benefit.
Thank you for your continued commitment to effective floodplain management across Colorado.
