Hello Friends,
Fall
is in full force, so it's time to enjoy the crisp air and colorful foliage...
but first, the news:
Gloria Champion, Inge Uhlir and Gary Marcoux
attended the auction of the Polaroid property on Friday, October
9th. After a few low bids (25-27 million dollars) the bank bid 42.5
million and bought it back. Gloria had submitted a request to Mayor McCarthy to
initiate eminent domain taking for Berry Farm, but the mayor said as long as it
was in the hands of the court, that wasn't possible. Now that the bank has
it we need to reinforce the stand that Berry Farm must be protected in its
entirety. Please feel free to send a letter of support to Mayor
McCarthy. Gloria has already been in touch with the bank and has
sent them a copy of the letter we sent to the mayor. We will let you know
of any new developments as we get updated information.
Frank
Fitzgerald will lead a Fall Nature
Walk on Sunday, October 25th at 2:00
p.m. Please meet at the guard rail near the recreation
building (314 Totten Pond Rd, Waltham, MA—the main entrance to the park). Wear
comfortable shoes and plan to spend at least an hour hiking to the summit to
admire the lovely view and enjoy the fall weather!!!
