I write to you with exciting, late-breaking news -- a few members of Monty's family, who happen to have close personal ties to the top management of the Phillies, have recently been working on a wonderful idea -- namely, to get the Penn Glee Club to perform a special version of Monty's clever baseball ode, "Aint-cha Never Heard Of?", as a part of the World Series next weekend. Monty's sister Liz has re-written the lyrics so that, instead of mentioning old-time baseball hall-of-famers, it recognizes the entire current Phillies roster. The plan is that we will LEARN AND RECORD (both audio and video -- equipment and engineers will be there) this new version of the song tomorrow, during the first hour of our regular rehearsal (5-6pm) in the Platt House. These recordings will then be passed on to the Phillies management... and the hope is that one or more of the following will then result: our recording gets some radio airplay this week; our video gets promoted online by the Phillies; that we get invited to perform the song live, before/after one or more of the World Series home games; and/or (if the Phillies win the Series) that the PGC would be invited to participate in the victory parade! (Although at this point there certainly is no guarantee that any of this will come to pass, it seems like a real possibility, since the Phillies' CEO himself is well-aware of the PGC and this project.)
So -- in light of the above -- current Clubbers, if at all possible, please arrive a bit early to rehearsal tomorrow, and be ready to get down to work! In fact, if some people can be there 10-15 minutes ahead of time, it would be great to get some help setting up the room.
And for all you nearby PGC alumni reading this message: you are hereby invited to come and join us tomorrow for this special project, to be a part of the recording session (and, perhaps, for one or more live performances in the near future!) We will rehearse as usual (and also do the recording) in the Platt Student Performing Arts House -- for those who may not know, this is near the Upper Quad gate, in the basement of Stouffer Commons (under Beijing restaurant). You have to swipe a PennID (or follow somebody) to enter the building after 5pm, so again, please be early rather than late.
ATTIRE -- Since video recording will take place, I'm sure people will wonder how they should dress for the occasion. It won't be possible (or even desirable) for everyone to be dressed uniformly, so we won't attempt that. What I will say is that you should look "presentable" -- good hygiene, not looking messy, etc. -- but casual (as opposed to businesslike) is fine. Also, please don't wear T-shirts or anything else with any sort of branding or logo or writing on them -- EXCEPT that if you have any Phillies clothing (shirt, jersey, cap, etc.) then DO wear that -- in fact, bring whatever you've got, to share with others for the video.
More will be explained tomorrow at 5pm -- in fact, Liz will be there herself to give us additional details. See you then!
