Gov. Corzine renews commitment for Pay to Play reform
Speaking at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Center for Civic Responsibility, Governor Corzine renewed his commitment for strong pay-to-play reform at all levels of government. While  we are still awaiting action from the Governor's office, the Citizens' Campaign will continue its efforts both at the local and state levels.

Now is the time to take action. Governor Corzine can sign an executive order immediately to close the few remaining loopholes in the state-level pay-to-play law and at the same time set the stage for the Legislature to pass comprehensive pay-to-play reform.

Contact Governor Corzine and ask him to deliver on his promises to clean up Trenton now by signing an executive order today. Call (609) 292-6000 or send him an email here.

Contact your Legislator. Leadership in both the Senate and Assembly have made public commitments to pass strong pay-to-play reform.  Contact your legislator today and tell them you want genuine reform now. Find your legislator here.

Does your town have contract and redevelopment pay-to-play reform? Contact Lauren Skowronski at (732) 548-9798 x.6 or lau...@jointhecampaign.com to make a presentation to your town council.

A Win for NJ:Family Leave Insurance is the law of the state

Gov. Jon Corzine is scheduled to sign the Family Leave Insurance bill into law later today.

The first legislation to provide New Jersey working men and women with paid time off to care for sick family members was introduced about a dozen years ago. But very little happened until the past couple of years, when active coalitions pressed their case for this much-needed reform.

FOCUS | Adam Cohen: Voting Rights Are Too Important
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/050308Y.shtml
Two editorials, one from Adam Cohen of The New York Times and the other from The Boston Globe editorial staff, explore the ramifications of the Supreme Court decision this week that upheld a voter ID law in the state of Indiana that will require voters to show photo identification at the polls. Adam Cohen calls for Congress to uphold the Constitution and act to regulate federal elections, while The Boston Globe scolds: "Voting is a fundamental right. ID rules should be no more stringent than is necessary to keep the voting process secure and orderly. That's what Indiana had - until partisan legislators saw an opening and exploited it."
