There’s some back-pedaling going

Call Speaker Pelosi Today!

We’re coming down to the wire on the house vote for the Weiner amendment-- sources tell us the vote is imminent, assuming that Speaker Pelosi allows the vote as she promised. Call Speaker Pelosi in support of the Weiner amendment. http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/callalert/index.tt?alertid=14249971
Pelosi will announce tomorrow the introduction of the final House bill—no amendments will be allowed. Apparently, the bill does contain a public option with reimbursement rates tied to insurance rates—not Medicare rates as the CPC’s version does, along with provisions more closely resembling the Senate’s bill.
To make the challenge even harder, the Kucinich amendment has been stripped.
When single-payer advocates were excluded from the White House meeting on healthcare reform, we kept pushing. When the mainstream media blacklisted discussion of single-payer as a viable solution, we kept pushing. When Senator Baucus said "Single-payer is off the table," we kept pushing. It’s time to push some more.
Please contact Speaker Pelosi, ask her to fulfill her promise and allow the vote on the Weiner amendment, and demand that the Kucinich amendment be reinserted. Click here. http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/callalert/index.tt?alertid=14249971
While the future of single-payer healthcare hangs in the balance in Washington, we will continue the single-payer fight in the states.
Last week, members of the PDA national team traveled to Pennsylvania for a rally at the capital rotunda [1] in Harrisburg, in support of Healthcare for All Pennsylvania [2] and their single-payer bill. The momentum for single-payer healthcare grows daily. It appears Congress will have to be forced to follow the lead of states like Pennsylvania, California, Illinois, Ohio and Massachusetts—all working to implement single-payer healthcare at the state level. Our ultimate goal is to pass Medicare for All (HR 676) at the federal level because we believe healthcare is a human right. But first we must pass it in the states--help us in this fight—we need to raise an additional $2000 this month for a materials purchase. Please consider becoming a Change makes Change [1]partner for as little as five dollars a month. Learn about the benefits here. [2]

We know times are tough, which is one reason we so strongly support Medicare for All. The savings for individuals and families under single-payer is significant. Can you help us in this fight by calling Speaker Pelosi and joining Change makes Change today?

From Congressman Dennis Kucinich:
What Do We Stand For: Insurance Companies Or The People?
![]() |
Dear Friends,
On MSNBC,The Ed Shultz Show (October 28) Congressman
Kucinich stated: It's time to re-double our efforts to insist on a robust public
option, that is the least we can do since the
single-payer option has been taken out of the bill, leaving
negotiated rates, a trigger - capitulating to insurance companies. Without a
robust public option the poor will pay more, the government will pay more,
ending up in a larger bailout to the insurance industry. Your contribution will empower our efforts
to fight for the single-payer, not for profit health care bill, H.R.
676.
Congressman Kucinich continued: We can't sway from our
responsibilities as members of Congress who have pledged to deliver health care
to the American people and we must ensure that it is health care and not
insurance care. We have to make sure the American people know that we want
everyone covered with the best possible plan. Frankly, we are selling ourselves
short by not going forward with a robust public option. We must make sure the
insurance companies are not going to raid the American taxpayer's coffers.
