Friars,
It's that special time of year again - the time for the first of many tourney emails. Read what we know so far below. There’s a lot of information, but the most important action item for y’all right now is to simply reply to this email to let me know if you’re coming (not “Reply All”. Reply just to me. I’m counting on you here).
The Basics:
What: CAN’s 27th Annual Softball Tournament + the Providence College Alumni Softball Team’s “I’m-Not-Sure-What-Annual” Banquet and Awards Night
When: August 2nd, August 3rd, and if we're lucky August 9th
Where: Goddard Softball Complex, Beltsville, MD (Google Maps is calling this "Glenn Dale" and I am Ignoring it)
How Tourney Works
Weekend #1 (August 2nd & 3rd): Pod play! We’re guaranteed 3 games played on Saturday/Sunday that will determine our eligibility to advance. Team Banquet @ a TBD location on the evening of Saturday, August 2nd.
Weekend #2 (August 9th): Single-elimination bracket. The Big One. We play until we are crowned champions or we lose.
We will do an additional round of dues for attending the tournament. Per the league, the cost per attended is expected to remain approximately the same as last year and have estimated the costs per person/guest below:
Transpo/Lodging Logistics
We will coordinate carpooling for anyone who needs it after we’ve confirmed our tourney roster.
Spending Saturday night in the area is a blast but by no means required.
Parking at Goddard sucks. We have accepted this.
The League has also kindly put together this little rundown of hotel options in the area for those who plan to stay in Greenbelt the evening of the 2nd:
Who & When We're Playing:
Seeding and schedules have not been announced yet. We'll send out an update to this group and in the WhatsApp after the seeding party at the end of the month (see below)
The league will be hosting its annual seeding party at Crystal City Sports Pub on Friday July 25, 2025 at 7:00pm EST for any who wish to attend
CAN has asked that anyone attending the seeding party respond to this Facebook Invite
Reminders
You need to have played in 4 regular season games to qualify for the tournament. This is non-negotiable
If you're not sure if you've qualified or not, ask me or Burke
Pay your regular season dues. $60. If for whatever reason you are unable to pay your dues at this time, reach out to me or Burke. We have just over half of the team accounted for
We will again require volunteers to scorekeep and assist with facility maintenance (what some call “trash duty”) more details on this to come
