It's Time to Play the Game: PC Softball 2024 Schedule & Reminders

What's up Friars,

EA has granted me temporary email privileges; let's see how this goes. We'll be covering: 

• The schedule - Preseason practice/scrimmage + games 
  
• Waivers - You can't sue CAN or the National Parks Service over the amount of goose shit in the outfield 
• General reminders and expectations - Please RSVP to the games, and don't be an idiot with the booze

The Schedule 

Our benevolent CAN overlords have shortened the regular season from 14 games to 12. I'm not going to pretend I understand it, but we're on to Cincinnati. As a result, we'll be playing six division games (Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Nova, Xavier, Washington) and six non-division games (everyone else). The Big East tournament is back this year by popular demand, and boy I cannot wait to stick it to Nova and Georgetown on the same day. 

Prior to our first game against UMD on 4/30, we've scheduled a practice and a friendly against Notre Dame to shake off any cobwebs we may have gotten following our historic tournament run last year. Bring whatever equipment you need to play with to both, and a jersey if you have it to the scrimmy. Our full calendar is below.

Waivers 

Everyone on our roster must register with the league, join our team, and sign the liability waiver. I am going to phrase this as clearly as possible: If you want to play, sign the waiver. If you DON'T want to play, DON'T sign the waiver. If you DON'T want to NOT PLAY, also sign the waiver. If you don't have an account yet, you can create one from the league's homepage here (use the "Sign Up" link on the landing page). The registration and waiver submission can be completed online using this link. 

Additional Reminders/ Admin things

• When the season officially kicks off, the above link can also be used to access the CAN website to confirm attendance for individual games. Please submit your RSVP to each game by 24 hours prior to the game at the LATEST. We need to know who's playing to set an optimal lineup, distribute playing time equitably, and avoid disasters up to and including "me pitching". 
  
• Dues will be finalized after the procurement of a NEW lady bat, but are expected to come in around $60. Dues can be paid in cash, venmo, or whatever other financial service app EA and I have on our phones.  More on this to come.  
• We have a number of new joiners this year, which we're thrilled about. So a sincere welcome to all of the rookies. We'll be doing another bulk order of jerseys when our numbers are finalized. More on this to come as well. 
• NPS prohibits the consumption of alcohol on their administered grounds. I'm not a cop or a lawyer just...keep that in mind.

Sup gang, 

After what I hope has been a nice month of enjoying our back-to-back Big East supremacy, it's time to start playing softball again and finish out our season strong. As a reminder, we have both Michigans on the docket next week ("State" on Tuesday the 11th, "University of" on Friday the 14th), followed by Vandy on the 18th and Catholic/Washington on 6/22.  We are expecting 5 wins. 

Please RSVP to all of these games as soon as possible.  Our numbers for the double header are looking thin, and we need attendance finalized early should we need to reschedule. I'm not going to get into how bad a double forfeit would be for our tournament prospects, but in JUUL terms we'd be looking at a "busted pod". Please let me know if you don't know how to RSVP to the Google invites or are having any trouble with it. Looking forward to getting after it on Tuesday. Roll Friars.
