The Microsoft Surface is available for pre-order. Checked the specs and NOT interested. Display is 10.6 inch display but only 1366 x 768!  Today?!?!?  There are 7 inch tablets with close or better resolution (Google tab is 7 inch 1280 x 800).

I admit to a preference for high resolution displays (the original iPad didn't do it 1024 x 768).

it has other nifty features (cover-keyboard, etc.).  But, they aren't sufficient (for me) if the screen isn't crystal sharp!!

I agree -- compared to Surface, but...  :-))

I think the Surface is overpriced and that sets the limits for the other W8 devices. While there's a lot in the IdeaPad, it's also a bit pricey.  Just picked up a new ThinkPad with much better specs (no touchscreen) and on-site warranty and battery warranty for a couple hundred more.

Not thrilled with the HD+ display (1600 x 900). My previous laptop had a 1920 x 1200 display and the best I can do today in the Windows space (without paying a totally ridiculous premium) is a FHD (1920 x 1080).

My phone has a HD display (1280 x 720), tablet 1280 x 800.
