They don't mention the dimensions but it looks bulky to me.  I would also like to know price info.

My biggest concern with Surface is what Microsoft might do to Windows 8 to preclude getting to the Google infrastructure. Other than that I've followed what Microsoft has been doing with their initial "surface" computing going back years (and some of it on display weekly in the CBS series Hawaii 50 (form what I've been told, in production  (or at least pre-production) for the fall.

LOL

I wonder in JimN can get OS/2 to boot on it ... if anyone could, it would be him.

I think choosing "Surface" as the brand was a surprise stroke of genius. Establishes the fact that Microsoft had touch before any other major player.

If it possible, I suspect we both could. I wouldn't take the time. For me, OS/2 reminds me of the original Star Trek (He's dead Jim). :-)

OK, there are still some enthusiasts and the OS is still technically alive (as eCommStation), but other than that...

Don't forget the Newton from Apple and Palm (now part of HP and dead) -- that predates Microsoft Surface. IBM was also doing early research on touch as was Xerox PARC.  Don't know about PARC, but IBM has patents in the area.

I agree, brilliant naming!

And it's starting to look like Linux on the desktop is dying, too.

Server, no. Desktop, yes.

That was the original Surface.

Sold it to casinos. See the 3rd and 4th videos in this list: http://goo.gl/cv24L

If you want to point a finger about this area, start with the Gnome developers who took a total inside-out approach to v3. They thought they knew what users wanted, but in reality didn't have a clue.

There's more, starting with multiple GUIs...  :-)
