I have found el-cheapo off-brand batteries from China fail after a while.  I have stopped using them, and instead only use either a properly branded replacement, which costs more, or something from Duracell if I can get it.

I hesitate to suggest it, but... have you looked on eBay?

OMG in today's day and age a fearful eBayer? I buy everything but
groceries on eBay. What choice do you have with this economy anyway?

No not fearful, knowledgeable and ripped off.

Case 1, purchased a part based upon the manufacturer's part number
(specifically IBM). The seller shipped the item and it was incomplete.
I asked for the missing pieces 3 times and got no reply. So, I filed a
dispute with PayPal. The seller told PayPal that it was my fault, that
I ordered the wrong part and blamed him. So, I left negative feedback
for the seller that said the item was incomplete. Seller left the
samething he filed with PayPal and then added "horrible buyer, stay
away." Then the seller immediately offered to withdraw his feedback if
I withdrew mine.

PayPal offered a refund that I accepted, the seller never did. I also
filed a complaint with eBay about retaliatory feedback. That was one of
many that caused eBay to change their policy about seller feedback.

Case 2. Ordered an item listed New In Box (from a different seller).
The item arrived with a hodgepdge of pieces incomplete based upon what
was supposed to be in NEW box. A bit of digging and I discovered the
item had been used and actually registered with the manufacturers Web
site belonging to someone else, that it had been returned and should
have been labeled as refurbished not new -- that the seller had removed
the refurbished sticker and put it in what appeared to be a new box.
I'm still working on the resolution to this one.

Bottom line. You have to be careful about what you buy and who you buy
from on eBay. Because of the seller in case 1, it is clear that user
ratings can and have been "gamed" and are NOT a reliable source of
information about the efficacy or honesty of the seller.

Do I know people who have purchased from eBay and love it? Yes. Was I
one of those people until these two incidents? Yes. Am I much more
cautious now and recommend same to others? You bet I do!

If the seller doesn't take PayPal, I won't buy from them. I've been robbed,
too, and also screwed over by buyers who post negative feedback
unjustifiably (for example, a product they never received, lost in the mail,
for which I issued 100% refund).

That is one of the reasons I only ship with delivery confirmation.

I do. If you don't get the confirmation, it's lost. ;-)

I had one buyer swear it wasn't received, even after confronted with
their signature on the FedEx form. Needless to say, that was one
transaction that didn't get reversed. :-)

I had a similar issue once. Stuff was shipped to the exact address of the
buyer, confirmed delivery. Guess what? He had moved and hadn't updated his
shipping info.

I have the following problem with Outlook 2007. It will not display images
in the emails. I have played around with the settings, but I am not sure
what I am doing as it does not seem to change anything? Any suggestions.
These are not attachments but items in the body of the email

Thank you

Is this for e-mails your are receiving or sending? Two different fixes,
which is why I ask.

I know things have happened to others on eBay but I have yet to lose
one and my feedback is nearly 1100. Like RBL and I think I told him
this I only buy with Paypal and only if I can use a Mastercard or Visa
(not Amex or Discover) as then I have an additional avenue of defense
if I lose a Paypal dispute as Mc and Visa can charge back Paypal and
make it stick per their agreements where Amex and Discover cannot. Oh
and never "bank account only" for Paypal, that has way too many red
flags for moi.

The key to disputes is never agreeing to do anything first with an
agreement the other guy will do it second. Once you end the dispute
and have not been paid you are "dead meat".

I go back almost 6 months on feedback before buying from anyone
looking for any clue and have often emailed negatives to see what
really happened because the limited words feedback allows, is a strain
on many users vocabulary.

The one thing I wish would happen is "transactional feedback" which I
preset with most sellers and practice myself which lets the buyer at
ease and that means when each segment of the transaction is over,
feedback is left. When someone buys from me and pays, that is when I
leave feedback as the end result or receipt should not have anything
to do with feedback left for payment. If my seller leaves feedback for
me upon payment, I can leave it for him without opening the box on
receipt as I know it will be fine. If he refuses, I examine the bloody
thing with a microscope when it arrives.
