On September 23, political and corporate leaders will meet at the United Nations in New York City for Climate Summit 2014. This summit represents yet another step towards the corporate takeover of the UN climate negotiations and the privatization of land, water, and air resources under the guise of a global climate compact.
Meanwhile, throughout the world, communities on the frontline of climate change are cultivating real,
place-based solutions to address the global ecological crisis, while confronting extreme energy
corporations and other industries that profit from the destruction of our communities, our cultures,
and our ecosystems.
While Heads of State meet at the UN, CJA together with our friends and allies, will host the People’s
Climate Justice Summit, which will feature the voices, strategies, and solutions of climate-affected
communities around the world.
o We will hear presentations that highlight the experiences of communities on the frontlines of climate chaos and its resulting storms, floods, droughts, poverty, hardship, and harm.
o We will also learn about the innovative solutions and the steps communities are taking to move past our dependence on extractive energy, while developing resiliency and local living economies.
The core activities of the People’s Climate Justice Summit (PCJS) will take place at the UN Church
Center, located at 777 1st. Avenue (across the street from the United Nations). This site has
restricted access due to security measures being taken for the UN Summit across the street.
Because of limited space and tight security measures, we will live stream the People’s Climate Justice
Summit to our second location, the New School University Auditorium at 66 W. 12th Street.
The Orozco Center at the New School will be a viewing hub where people can gather to watch the
transmitted live session. CJA will be on hand to help guide discussions and host the viewing event.
CJA will also be holding live, interactive panels, workshops, and other activities at the New School
throughout the two days of the Summit.
The Peoples Climate Justice Summit at the New School is free, but preregistration is required. The registration form for attending the PCJS at the New School will soon be available on the Our Power Campaign website--check back often.
Activities at the UN Church Center will be by invitation only as the space is small and the security restrictions are extensive. For further information, contact: cme...@ironboundcc.org
