Dear Friend:
“I’m a victim of climate change.”
I remember the chills I felt when Lou Sabatini, an activist with MoveOn on Long Island, told me this. Lou lives in Massapequa and when Superstorm Sandy hit the region his home was severely damaged.
As the evidence mounts that fracking is leading to a public health crisis and exacerbating climate change, it is more critical than ever that we act to stop it.
On Saturday, October 11, communities across the world will be participating in the
Global
Frackdown, an international day of action against fracking.
In New York, there are over a dozen events, from Long Island to Buffalo – forums, film screenings, rallies.

We will call on Governor Cuomo to heed that growing body of science showing that fracking is inherently dangerous and cannot be done safely. We’ll urge him to be a leader in preventing climate change. And we’ll send a message that he should direct a transition
to renewable energy, not deepen our dependence on dirty fossil fuels.
This October 11, we’ll take one more powerful step towards a day when fracking is banned in New York, helping prevent further tragedies like Superstorm Sandy.
Thanks for all you do.
