BGR URL Call-Out Dates and Info from Purdue
Participation Date(s): Monday, August 16th & Tuesday, August 17th
Room Assignment: BRNG 1268 We will have a brief slide show about our various ministries, a chance for one rep from each group to share who they are and what they do on campus in 2 minutes or less, and an opportunity to meet new students. Some years this has been poorly attended, and other years not. Come prepared with some handouts if you want, but we'll also have preference cards available and collect those for information so we're not crowding the students to get their names! It starts at 4:30, but please try to be there by 4:15 so we can prepare ourselves for our presentations. For your convenience here are some helpful “presenter tips” from Purdue officials. Think from a new student perspective Acronyms may be unknown (what is ENAD?, etc.) Locations may not be clear Interactive is always best Students are motivated by free stuff Involve current students There may not be knowledge of how to use Purdue related technology Students respond best to personable, friendly presenters. Feel free to mingle. All presenters should role model appropriate behavior The legal drinking age is 21 and these students are 17-18 years old. Please consider this when planning to talk about student activities and traditions that involve drinking. Encourage academic integrity and learning. Come early- you should plan to be ready to go at least 15 minutes prior to the session. · Each session location is assigned based on attendance history. There are a couple of things that we follow in our Boiler Gold Rush Program BGR-13 Policy This is our way of reminding and training our staff to be appropriate at all times. One thing that we stress is not talking about alcohol. We would greatly appreciate it if Breakfast Club and other things of that nature were not included in your Interest Session presentation for Boiler Gold Rush 2008 since these students will be 17,18, and 19 years old. FreeZONE FreeZONE is our Boiler Gold Rush staff’s diversity program. In FreeZONE, we encourage our staff to be open minded towards others that have differing views and opinions than themselves. We would greatly appreciate it if your Interest Session for Boiler Gold Rush 2010 was respectful to a diverse range of students. HAVE FUN!!! If you have any questions about the Interest Sessionsor BGR in general, please do not hesitate to contact me at 765-496-1269 or dar...@purdue.edu. Please note, should you need to reach me on Monday, August 16th or Tuesday, August 17th after 12:00 pm contact me at (504-914-1975). Again, we thank you for deciding to participate in this activity and helping to make BGR 2010 a great success!
