All,
I've been in touch with a couple of you directly about this (thanks for your help!), but wanted to make sure the whole list knows about this upcoming (free!) event.

On September 9th at Mechanics' Hall, legal scholar and national ACLU president Deborah Archer will be speaking on her book Dividing Lines: How Transportation Infrastructure Reinforces Racial Inequality. Debroah's talk will be followed by a panel discussion with Angelique Bitshilualua (Portland Trails), Bruce Hyman (City of Portland), and Julie Larry (Black Diamond Consultants) joining Archer to highlight local/regional resonances with her work.

The event (please click through for ticket registration):

The book (available in several Maine public libraries):

The book is excellent, and the talk should be strong, but I am especially excited to get Archer and these ideas in conversation with our local voices and local circumstances - 295, Franklin St., attempts to shift our regional planning towards more equitable and active transportation, etc.

I hope to see some of you there!

Aaron
[Full disclosure: I planned this event as part of my work as Engagement and Education Coordinator at the ACLU of Maine. If you have any questions or comments, you can reach me there at arose...@aclumaine.org.]

Thanks for sharing!
This looks like it's going to be a very interesting event!

I put it in my calendar, and I think I can make it.

The mechanics hall is a cool venue as well; it's worth going to events there just to see the hall...
