Hi folks,

In the recommendations section we settled on 3 options, listed in order of preference:

Option 1 - Two Way Bike Lane (on the Deering oaks side)

Option 2 - Restore the unprotected bike lane on the south side of Park Avenue, with improved parking protected lane on the deering oaks side

Option 3 - Update the existing design & devise a plan for maintenance and repairs

Those options are elaborated on at great length in the draft; please read if commenting!

Let me know if you have any comments, we're getting pretty close to publishing the report, after which comments will have no effect!

Thanks all for working on this, I have made a few suggested edits. Mostly they are minor in nature, but on the more substantive end of the spectrum, I'd suggest perhaps a phased approach to the recommendations. It may be useful to quickly implement the suggestions in Option 3 to remove life and safety hazards, then look at Option 2 as a placeholder while funding is secured to do the best, "gold standard" Option 1 recommendation. I added some language as such to be considered.

My hesitancy around that approach is that it might encourage the city to do the bare minimum (the “80/20 rule”) and call the mediocre good.

Zack, I think that is a valid concern. On the other hand it might encourage some worthwhile short term actions that could be very helpful, verus the unacceptable status quo.

Very much appreciate all the work folks put into this. No comments from me.

Horrifyingly, we have not yet released the report, though it has been about 99% finished since I sent the previous email in July...  I think perhaps I should in the future not be in charge of these things; there are more demands on my time at the moment than was the case when we were churning out 4 or 5 of these a year...

However, we plan on releasing it more or less immediately following our Monthly meeting on the 27th of October (which I know is not our usual meeting time).  We do need to vote on the report, because in this case it's tricky to release it without coming to conclusions:

Option 1 - Two Way Bike Lane (on the Deering oaks side)

Option 2 - Restore the unprotected bike lane on the south side of Park Avenue, with improved parking protected lane on the deering oaks side

Option 3 - Update the existing design & devise a plan for maintenance and repairs

Those options are elaborated on at great length in the draft, and will be voted on on Monday the 27th.

Any final comments before that happens?

The only thing that I can see that really needs work at this point is an intersection by intersection breakdown, which I will simply remove if it is not improved by Monday's PBPAC meeting.  So, get in there if you think it's important to do that.

Thanks for your patience, help, and for taking the time to come to the Audit this spring.  In spite of the painfully slow process, these reports have real value, and I hope we can find a way to produce more of them next year, though I will not be taking a leadership role in their creation, so that will rely on others.  :).

This also came up against a busy time(s) for  me/other commitments so I share blame
