City to Host Ribbon Cutting Event Celebrating Completion of Back Cove South Sewer Project & New Back Cove Park Fields

PORTLAND, Maine - The City of Portland is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony TODAY, Friday, September 5 to mark the completion of the Back Cove South Storage Facility project and the opening of the new Preble Field at Back Cove Park. 


The public is welcome to join in this special event to celebrate the completion of this important project. Representatives from the City of Portland, Portland Public Works, and Parks, Recreation, and Facilities will be in attendance to mark this significant milestone for the community, along with representatives from the project contractor, Sargent Corporation. 


This collaborative project was designed to improve both the city's infrastructure and public green spaces. The new storage facility will enhance the City's ability to manage stormwater, a key initiative for a more resilient and sustainable Portland. In addition, the renovated Preble Field provides a revitalized public space for residents to enjoy.

WHERE:  Preble Field at Back Cove Park, Portland. 


Park in the Back Cove Trail parking lot across from Hannaford.

Hopefully they invite Peter Quesada and Jon Jennings!  The two guys most responsible for this crazy saga...along with the members of the City Council between 2016 and 2020 that allowed this unnecessary re-direct of city resources.

The only silver lining to the lack of rain the last 3 months is that we had less of a need for this kind of facility which I believe is now finally operational (though a ribbon-cutting does not necessarily mean it is actually 100% on-line yet).
