Hi folks,
This year I'm helping organize the bike valet program at the Common Ground Fair in Unity, Maine.

I got a few things on the calendar at the bike valet tent:

A panel discussion on Friday at Noon called "How a Bike Friendly town is Made"

A forum on Sat & Sunday at 1 & Noon respectively called "Car free and car lite living forum"

I have 3 prospective panelists lined up for the Friday panel discussion.  I'm trying to get folks working on this in Rural Maine, Urban Maine and Statewide.  (Dakota Hewlett, Active Transportation Planner at the Maine DOT, a member of the Casco Maine Safe streets Committee & the chair of the Lewiston Auburn complete streets committee, so far).
  •  If there's anyone who you think should be included let me know: I'm looking for maybe one more panelist, though we only have 50 minutes, so too many and there won't be time to hear from anyone in any depth.
  • If anyone wants to volunteer to Moderate, I might do that myself, but am open to having help, if someone has more experience than I.
  • If anyone will be at the fair, and has the equipment to record this forum, I would love to have it recorded.
  • Potential questions/will eventually be an agenda for the panel discussion: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1auJNAcZqozdoTJ83ovcvAbvXYQiELzZ4zVKC5sGbENg/edit?usp=sharing PLEASE make suggestions!

For the car free and car lite forum, I haven't got anywhere: I mean, I can talk about the benefits of car free living until I am blue in the face, so I'm saving those details for last.

If you have any thoughts about it, feel free to suggest them in here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WqvAAN6e7-gfkzkdp7DYLWKb7UugTGQ9E-wIfI2ev64/edit?usp=sharing

Let me know if anyone has any comments or suggestions!

This is cool! I feel like there were some folks in Norway, ME. Maybe called CEBEP who organized a bike powered compost service and they had a bike share system too for a minute? Could be a good contact?

Hi Winston and company,
I don't know if this was already brought up but Downeast recently featured this person living car-free in (and off-grid!) in Surry. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1AaQiqDqo1/

I could also connect you with a friend who lives car-free in Lewiston.

I'm trying to nail down my plans for that weekend. If I decide to go to the fair, I would be happy to moderate. I should know in the next few days. I'll follow up.

Ohhh, the Center for an Ecology based Economy is a good idea; there is more than one way to foster a bike friendly town!  I've been focusing on advocacy groups, but it's much more than that.  I know someone who worked at the compost hauling co-op too...

Let me know Zoe- I would love your help if you'll be there!

I'll have to pick up that edition of Downeast; I lived on deer Isle car free for about 8 months when I was 17&18; it's doable in rural Maine, and would be easier with an E-bike...  though I certainly could not have afforded one at that age.
