As some of you know, I've been helping a group of folks in Gorham and Westbrook organize to oppose the town selling 92 acres of land just east of Gorham Village to Amazon, which has said they want to put a last-mile delivery warehouse there.
The more I looked at the location and Amazon's plans, the less sense it made for a warehouse. I mean, it's not ideal but still probably fine for Amazon - they don't care if they're operating 24/7 in an area with neighborhoods and a busy commuter route and bus rapid transit. It is a terrible place for the people of Gorham and Westbrook, and anyone else who wants to walk, bike, ride, or drive along or across Route 25.
But, it would make a lot more sense if they are also planning to build a data center.
Here's the evidence, such as it is, based on what little Amazon has said about their plans. Note, I am not taking a position either way on a hypothetical data center, for me, this is about transparency and accountability.
