to Pennsylvania wine talk
So Ed Rendell created a CEO position for the Liquor Control Board,
filled it with "retired" state senator Joe Conti, and as a result
Newman has decided to give up his post as chairman.

Know what Newman was making as chairman of the board? 65K. Doesn't seem
like a lot considering everything that he accomplished during his
tenure. But Conti, at $150,000 a year, I expect will get more than
twice as much done. Right?

It's a shame, and I hope that the agency won't fall back into the dark
ages in a few years. I was beginning to look forward to trips to the
State Store for the pleasant surprises there.
