RINGWOOD — Soil tainted with toxic arsenic found four years ago is now
being piled high in Ringwood State Park as contractors prepare it to
be trucked to Pennsylvania for disposal.
The contamination, on Ford Motor Co.’s former dump site in Upper
Ringwood, is spread over about 3½ acres at the end of Peters Mine Road
and is about six feet deep in some areas, said federal Environmental
Protection Agency officials.
Ford’s contractor, Arcadis, started excavating the soil and putting it
in piles last week, and expect the first truck to cart off the soil
Monday or Tuesday.
