Web Ontologies and Online Learning: Theories and Technologies
A book edited by Dr. Pier Cesare Rivoltella, Catholic University of
Milan, Italy

Introduction
Ontological approach - as Sematic Web infrastructure - has become
central and widely investigated, because of the promises it seems to
mantain with regard to communication and interoperation between humans
and softwares. In this book, we intend focus on the role of ontological
knowledge representation from two different, although strictly
interconnected, points of view. We intend to investigate the
perspective of Education and analize applications and theoretical
foundations of ontological devices in e-learning and in Web Based
Educational Systems.
Moreover, we want to compare educational use of ontologies with the
organizational perspective: this is going to be the second focus of
this publication. The challenge is showing interesting intersections
besides deep differences.


The Overall Objective of the Book
The book intend to define a conceptual framework for understanding what
are web ontologies and their impact on Education. Moreover it will
provide an educational framework of Web ontologies conceptualized as a
tool with which allowing teachers and researchers in their job. Doing
that it will collect indications from international research,
particularly from Europe and Northern ones.

The Target Audience
The target audience includes professionals and researchers working in
the field of information and knowledge management in various
disciplines, e.g. library, information and communication sciences,
administrative sciences and management, education, adult education,
sociology, computer science, information technology; teachers and
professors; educators (particularly media educators).

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before
February 28, 2007, a 2-5 page manuscript proposal clearly explaining
the mission and concerns of the proposed chapter. Authors of accepted
proposals will be notified by March 31, 2007 about the status of their
proposals and sent chapter organizational guidelines. Full chapters are
expected to be submitted by July 15, 2007. All submitted chapters will
be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. The book is scheduled to be
published by Idea Group Inc., www.idea-group.com, publisher of the Idea
Group Publishing, Information Science Publishing, IRM Press, CyberTech
Publishing and Idea Group Reference imprints.
