Greetings Pack 410,

Hopefully everyone is back into the school routine and liking their new teachers.  Below are some of the big ticket items on our schedule this fall semester.

September 9 will be our Back to the Pack meeting in the school cafeteria.  Since the School Night for Scouting will not be until September 25, yes the 25th (I just checked w/ the Council to verify I heard correctly).  Since SNS is 25 September, please feel free to invite your friends and potential new Scouts to join us at the Back to the Pack meeting.

We would like to do the same as last year, everyone bring a snack, chips or cookies to share.  We'll talk about the schedule, popcorn sales (our Pack is trying a new to us but proven method for our boys to sell popcorn), and anything else you'd like to talk about.  We'll get a game of kickball or simply tag going for the boys to have fun running around since that's what they seem to do best.

Also, Pine Meadow's Open House is Thursday, September 11.  We will have a display set up like last year to promote our Pack at the school.  I would like to get two or three volunteers to man the booth/table so I can also visit my kid's classrooms.

On Thursday, September 25 I would like the boys to wear their Class A uniforms to school that day.  Class A does not included neckerchief and slide.  This will help start conversations amongst the boys and they can tell them to talk to their parents about attending SNS that evening in the cafeteria.  The entire school district will be doing SNS on the same night.  The district said no outside promotions within the first four weeks of school and no one is allowed to go into the classrooms to talk about Scouting either, except our boys talking to other boys.  The district has agreed to promote SNS via a robo-call and perhaps a flyer sent home with the boys.

Camping.  What I think every boy really cares about.  Our Fall Family campout is slated for October 10-12 at Camp Euchee.  I have not heard the final cost per camper but I expect it to be in $12-15 range like last year.  Stand by for more details later.

Corn Maze.  This will be October 18.  This is Sweet Season Farms' Scout Day.  It is not mandatory but a lot of fun and the Scouts each get a patch.

Raingutter.  November 18 will be our Raingutter Regatta race.  I was told the Scout Shop will not carry the monohulled boat this year, only the catamaran.  I think that is a good idea so that the boats are all similar.

Pinewood Derby.  Pack green & checkered flags will wave on January 20, 2015.  If you're an overachiever, start building now!  In past years there has been a derby workshop on the first Saturday of the New Year downtown on Wright street hosted by another Pack but where you can take your block of wood to ready-to-paint.

Finally, the overnighter on USS Alabama is slated for Friday night January 23.  I expect the cost to remain the same as last year, $20/camper.  And as before, more details to come.

Let me know if you have any questions and would like to be the Cubmaster this year and I will help you any way I can.

Oh, if your Scout would like to get some training and practice selling popcorn, please let me know and Ian and I would be happy to work with you.  Each Scout should have had a popcorn sales sheet mailed to him.  If you did not get one, let me know and I'll get you one.  The Pack has received our popcorn order and you are cleared to get out and sell popcorn.  If you have Take Orders (where you agree to deliver the popcorn to your customer) the delivery date is November 13.  Because that is so far away, let's sell everything we have now and I will get more.  I will continue to get more as long as you can keep selling it!

Have a great day and see you soon!
