To the students and faculty at Calvin College:
This is an unbelievably courageous and timely move on your part. I
want you to know that as an evangelical Christian who works at a
non-denominational Christian church in Sacramento, California, I am
100% behind what you're doing. To those who object to what these
students and teachers are doing, this is classic dissent; this is
EXACTLY the group of people that George Bush and his cronies need to
hear this from. If this came from almost ANY other campus (especially
a non-Christian campus), it would be easily dismissed as just another
liberal 'unpatriotic' exercise. As it is, these brave souls have
already been attacked by administration mouthpiece Sean Hannity as
'friends of terrorists'. For shame! This is what YOUR country is
coming to if the American people don't wake up to this illegal and
immoral behavior by a government that acts with such arrogance and
hubris that they threaten to turn the whole world against us. The fact
that Mr. Bush fancies himself a Christian makes it all the more
disgusting. I lend all the support I can to your valiant effort- if I
could be there, I would be. Peace be with you and God bless!

I wish the second BrentB's opinion. It is encouraging to see some
Christians with a clear mind like the few hundreds at Calvin standing
up against lies, deception, and greed. True Christians who are truly
close to God would be able to discern good and Bush (evil). And having
Bush on campus would adulterate the principles and ideals held dearly
by the true Christians at Calvin and elsewhere. Bush is NOT just a
president whose presence would mean an honor. Bush is a criminal that
has been so manipulative and elusive that justice hasn't caught up with
him... yet! History will show that the corrupted Gaylen Byker and
deluded majority at Calvin have made a huge embarassing mistake by
having Bush speak at the commencement.

World Tribunal on Iraq has summoned Bush and Cheney to face their
crimes against humanity. If the Christians truly follow Christ's
teaching in upholding the welfare of fellow human, they would not and
should not tolerate the criminal acts committed by Bush and Cheney for
the gain of wealth and power.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GOOD FOLKS AT CALVIN FOR STANDING UP FOR TRUE
CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES.

Hi Wild Horse (and everyone) --

I'm a Christian and a Calvin grad (2001) and I strongly disagree with
many of President Bush's policies. I also have serious questions about
him as a choice as commencement speaker. Along with many of the people
who have posted on this board, I have questions about the morality of
many policies and practicies. I would even support a criminal
prosecution of President Bush for crimes against humanity.

That being said, though, I find it counterproductive and inappropriate
to use phrases like "true Christian principles" and to imply that
anyone who is supportive of President Bush cannot be a Christian. I
know many sincere followers of Christ who support President Bush and a
majority of the policies he represents. Though I disagree, with them,
passionately at times, I can't question their loyalty to Jesus Christ.
I have seen them embody authentic Christian faith that makes me proud
to know them and to love them.

Let's not assume that all policies are moral or Christian, but at the
same time, let's not accuse people of not being Christians because we
disagree.
